10 December, 2024

HOLIDAY HOURS

The team at Harley Street Medical are taking a break this holiday season, with the practice closing for a short time during the holiday period. Harley Street Medical will be closed from 5.00pm, 24 December 2024, re-opening its doors to patients on Monday the 6 January 2025 at 8.00am.

For urgent medical assistance during this time, please see the Medical and Injury Centre, located at 98 Waimea Road, Nelson, the bright orange building next to Nelson Hospital.

PRESCRIPTIONS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

With the practice closing for the holiday period, we ask our patients to make sure they have enough medication to last until we reopen in the New Year.

Please ensure prescriptions are requested by 23 December 2024, in order for them to be completed before the holidays.

Remember, if you are travelling this holiday season, make sure you pack your medication. For urgent medication requests, we may be able to assist patients via Manage My Health only.

WHOOPING COUGH OUTBREAK

There has been a significant increase in Pertussis (Whooping Cough) across Aotearoa.

Whooping Cough can be particularly severe for babies, and they may require hospital care. The groups in the population who are most at risk of severe infection and its complications are young infants, people who are pregnant or people with reduced immunity.

Vaccination

The funded Boostrix vaccination is available for:

  • Pregnant people (from 16 weeks)
  • Babies at 6 weeks, 3 months, 5 months, 4 years
  • Children at 11 years
  • Adults aged 45 years and aged 65 years are also eligible for a funded booster Boostrix vaccination.

If a person is ineligible for a funded vaccination, we are offering unfunded vaccines at a cost of $70. It is recommended the extended whānau of pregnant people, new babies and infants should be immunised.

STAFF CHANGES

Silvie, our friendly medical receptionist, has just welcomed her new baby into their family. The entire team is overjoyed for Silvie and her growing family and look forward to welcoming her back to the practice in 2025.

Libby’s arrival (as the new medical reception team member covering Silvie’s maternity leave) has been a seamless transition for the practice. With a strong background in health administration, we look forward to working with Libby whilst Silvie is enjoying her newborn bubble.

The practice is also thrilled to welcome nurse Rosa to the team. Rosa has a wide nursing background in a range of clinical settings and is looking forward to developing her skill in general practice. Rosa looks forward to meeting you in the clinic.

The New Year brings an exciting new addition for the practice with the welcoming of a new GP, Dr Ella Barclay. Ella will begin seeing patients in February. She is currently a GP in Golden Bay and is looking forward to the change in pace this side of The Hill.

ADVANCE CARE PLANS

Advance care planning is a crucial process that helps patients, and their loved ones prepare for future healthcare decisions, especially during times of serious illness or end-of-life care. Our practice nurse Jayne now offers patients the opportunity to discuss their options. Jayne takes a personalized, patient-centred approach, sitting down one-on-one with individuals to discuss their values, goals, and preferences for medical treatment. Together, they explore a range of potential health situations and map out the patient’s wishes, ensuring their voice is clearly documented and easily accessible to their care team.

Contact Harley Street Medical to book your advance care plan appointment with Jayne (she is available in the practice Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays). Please note that for some patients this is funded but for other patients there is a cost involved.
